In addition to the clinical investigation core courses, the MSCI program has four concentrations that allow students to pursue courses tailored specifically to their interest in clinical and translational research.

Clinical investigation

The Clinical Investigation concentration provides scholars with a strong foundation in the methods, techniques, and applications of clinical and translational research.  Students enroll in core courses in statistics, ethics, writing and designing outcomes in clinical research, and complete electives, and mentored independent research.

Translational medicine

The Translational Medicine concentration provides scholars with a strong foundation in the methods, techniques, and applications of clinical and translational research.  Students complete a biological and biomedical sciences fundamentals course (i.e. immunology, molecular biology, etc.), an intensive course in the fundamentals of bench research techniques, and electives to complement the core curriculum.

Genetics/Genomics

The Genetics/Genomics concentration provides scholars with advanced methods training to conduct genetics and genomics studies in clinical and translational research and includes coursework in genetic epidemiology, genomics, advanced genetics, the fundamentals of mammalian genetics, and computational genetics.

Dissemination and Implementation

The Dissemination and Implementation concentration allows scholars to explore theories and frameworks used in D & I research to select the appropriate designs, strategies, outcomes, and measures for implementation studies. Scholars will be able to describe the importance of context at multiple levels in D & I science and distinguish between implantation strategies and outcomes in efficacy and effectiveness research. Core courses include statistics, ethics, writing, D & I methods, as well as elective courses and mentored independent research.

Certificate options

The program also offers a 16-credit Graduate Certificate in Clinical Investigation. Credits obtained by completing the graduate certificate apply toward completion of the Master of Science in Clinical Investigation degree.
