CRTC scholars and alumni are translating their research into real-world impact

The CRTC has adopted the Translational Science Benefits Model (TSBM) which offers a framework for documenting clinical and translational outcomes and communicating the impact to broader audiences. Developed at WashU in collaboration with the Bernard Becker Medical Library, Center for Public Health Systems Science, and Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences, this tool highlights advancements in the field by identifying benefits in the clinical, community, economic, and policy domains.

The Translation Science Benefits Conceptual Model demonstrates how “Resources flow into Scientific Activities and Capacity Building, which lead to Scientific Outputs and Translational Science Outcomes, which lead to Translational Science Benefits. All steps are impacted by Scientific, Financial, Organizational, Political, and Social Environmental Influences.” (from translationalsciencebenefits.wustl.edu/about-the-model)

The TSBM offers a robust toolkit as well as the ability to feature research impact, and numerous K scholars and T trainees have had their work featured in Case Studies and Impact Profiles.

MTPCI scholar Jessica Williams, MD demonstrated how a medical training gap exists for understanding how hearing loss shapes psychiatric care. She then proposed a curriculum that enhanced medical trainees’ knowledge, preparedness, and attitudes toward Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (DHOH) patient care.

TL1 Trainee Moses Chung Develops Approach to Improve the Prediction of Oropharyngeal Cancer Outcomes (Links to an external site)

TL1 Trainee Moses Chung shared the potential to conduct more accurate risk assessments and scalable decision support through a prognosis model examining the patient history of people with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC).
